Shop Supervisor


The NIGHT SHIFT Shop Supervisor will report directly to the shop manager and will be required to interact well with drivers and technicians. This individual will be required to be self-motivated, able to give direction to other employees, react appropriately in a fast paced environment, be computer literate and be familiar with VMRS coding.

The Shop Supervisor will also assist in the role of Shop Manager in the Shop Manager’s absence, will be able to perform all tasks and duties as directed by the Shop Manager and must be able to work flexible hours if the need arises on other shifts.

Responsibilities:

1)      Safety

  1. Must maintain a clean and safe work environment in compliance with corporate and OSHA standards.
  2. Must ensure that proper safety procedures are practiced at all times by all shop employees without exception

2)      Truck and Technician Scheduling

  1. Must ensure that enough work is available for all shifts by scheduling PM’s, interacting with drivers, collecting DVIR’s and using the various reports available.
  2. Assist with controlling indirect time and ensure that technicians are repairing equipment in a timely manner.

3)      Communication

  1. Must effectively communicate with operations, technicians and all levels of management in a courteous and professional manner in order to determine the urgency of repairs needed and expedite accordingly.
  2. Must be available to assist in answering phone calls and direct to the appropriate persons.
  3. Must be able to handle breakdown calls in a timely fashion while focusing on cost and the needs of our customers.

4)      Drivers

  1. The Shop Supervisor will be the first contact for all drivers and will act as a service writer during their scheduled shift. Driver complaints are to be addressed with urgency and drivers are to be treated as a customer.

5)      Parts / Warranty

  1. Assist the parts coordinator to ensure that parts are ordered, delivered and stocked in a timely manner.
  2. Assist the Parts Coordinator in spot counts, quarterly counts and annual inventories.
  3. Assist the Parts Coordinator with warranty parts including part returns, scrap parts and adjustments.
  4. Assist in the issuance of purchase orders while monitoring cost of repairs by vendors and ensuring that the best interests of the company are taken into consideration.
  5. Must be able to handle all aspects of running the parts room in the event that the Parts Coordinator is absent.

6)      Trades / Qualcomms / Recalls

  1. Assist in all aspects of trade truck inspection, preparation and acceptance.
  2. Assist with Qualcomm removal, installation and initialization as well as training others in these areas.
  3. Assist in the process of tracking recalls that need to be performed on all equipment domiciled at the respective terminal.

7)      Fuel

  1. Assist and supervise the receiving of all fuel deliveries.
  2. Ensure that what is being delivered matches what is on the delivery receipt.
  3. Ensure that fuel additive is added when each load is delivered when applicable. 

8)      Tires

  1. Assist in the monitoring of all tires and casings whether being delivered to or sent out from the shop.
  2. Participate in scrap analysis as needed.
  3. Monitor tire inventory and ensure that mounted tires are available for technicians to use as needed.

9)      In General

  1. Perform other duties / tasks per request of management.

Requirements:

  • 2 Years minimum experience of exceptional leadership supervisory in a maintenance related area
  • Ability to communicate through verbal and written form with all levels of management, associates and outside personnel.
  • Basic computer skills using spreadsheets and work processing.  TMT maintenance software and VMRS experience a plus.
  • Planning and organizing skills
  • Ability to work multiple tasks in a fast paced environment.
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Possess mechanical skills, aptitude and interest
  • General knowledge of Federal Motor Carrier Safety, DOT, OSHA and EPA regulations
